How to write on Medium and get paid $1,000+ per month

If you want to make money writing, then join Medium. Many people haven’t heard of or understandd what Medium is or how it operates.

To put the idea simple, Medium is a kind of hybrid social networking platform and blog. Medium is similar to what would result if WordPress and Twitter had a child that would pay you for writing.

You don’t need professional writing skills to join Medium. You can just write about your life, your pets, travel adventures and so on, and get paid for your work.

Medium pays royalty for your writings, if they accept and publish. You can also use your presence on medium to build your own following through blogging, building a YouTube channel or simply promoting your freelance writing skills.

What is Medium?

Medium is a blogging platform that allows everyone to begin reading and publishing.

It is completely free to setup Medium account and start writing. Writers can choose to put their material behind a paywall (accessible exclusively to paying Medium users) or make it available to everyone.

Who Should Consider Writing on Medium?

People who read the introduction above may believe Medium is a get-rich-quick site. That could not be further from the truth. The most important condition for making money blogging on Medium is that you enjoy writing.

On Medium, anyone can become viral. Writing about cats, self-help, your life tales, and other topics may generate a ton of views. But only if you truly enjoy writing and aren’t simply doing it because you believe it’s a simple way to get money.

There is no superior subject: You can write about virtually any subject on Medium. As long as your readers enjoy and find it valuable, you are good to go.

The sole prerequisite is being able to post on a regular basis: I recommend a minimum of once every week for beginners who are willing to progress slowly and steadily. The more you write, though, the better.

You’ll be able to hone your talents, discover what themes you enjoy writing about, and see what your audience reacts to best. (As a general rule, quality is more essential than quantity. Producing poor quality material will not go you very far. Writing a lot as a practice with the intention of improving is not the same as producing listicles.)

You’ll also need an open mind: It can be a little bit of a roller coaster on medium. You could be approved by your ideal magazine one day and denied from a smaller publication the next.

One of your stories will receive 200 views, and the next will only receive two. You must be able to analyze your performance if you hope to be successful in the long run.

Things A New Medium Writer Should Know

Expect three things when you start writing on Medium: a lot of effort, an amazing community, and a very rewarding experience.

Let’s start with the first. You should be prepared to put in a lot of effort on Medium, as I said before. Although it’s much more likely that you’ll gradually grow a following, you may become viral early on. There is some luck involved, but not much. I’ve discovered that writers who blame the algorithm for their poor performance are the least likely to put in the time to figure out what works and what their audience now just doesn’t wants from them.

You’ll also come across a wonderful community along the route. People who write are fantastic and supportive of one another. Writing groups are fantastic for gaining comments on your work, advice on using Medium, and perhaps even a follower or two you can rely on.

How to Start Making Money on Medium

You can make money on Medium through the Medium partner program, and the referral Medium program.

1. The Medium Partner Program

Medium’s Partner Program is the easiest method to earn a lot of money on the platform. The only constraint is that you must have at least 100 followers in order to apply for the partner program. But don’t worry, I’ll cover that in the part after this one.

Once you’ve signed up for the partner program, each time a paying Medium user reads one of your stories, you receive a small percentage of their membership price, based on how long they spend reading your story and how many other stories they read that month.

Although it seems easy to do, it’s actually fairly difficult. To put it in simple terms, you must publish an a lot of engaging articles that users will want to read.

2. Medium Referral Program

The referral system is a relatively new approach to make money on Medium. You receive 50% of a new member’s monthly Medium membership price for as long as they remain a paying member who joins using your referral link.

How to Get Your First 100 Followers on Medium

To join the Medium Partner Program, you need 100 followers. This is done in an effort to screen out those who aren’t committed to growing their following. You can get there as quickly as possible using one of three methods.

You can be popular and get more followers on Medium if you;

  • Join publications on Medium
  • Write stories that get curated
  • Follow authors on Medium and comment on their work

Medium can open doors for things that you can’t even imagine yet. Create a medium account, write just about anything and start making some passive income.
